Legal advice from non-solicitors

Lawyers other than solicitors

It has long been the case that solicitors firms and other providers of legal services do not rely solely upon solicitors to provide advice. There are many other categories of lawyer that often provide legal advice and representation. These include legal executives, barristers, ‘paralegals’ and trainee solicitors. Again, in principle, a client is entitled to receive the same standard of service no matter which of these types of lawyer provided the advice. If the advice falls below the standard, in most cases, the same legal principles are likely to apply as if it had been advice provided by a solicitor.
